NFL Week 5 Predictions

It's pretty evident the Houston Texans will be drafting a QB this April.  The Colts have managed to be the benefactors of an extremely weak AFC South and sit in 1st place at 3-2.  We're about a quarter of the way through the season, and here's what we know so far:  Miami is in shambles.  The Pats and Packers are still very good, and the Lions aren't going back to the playoffs.  The rest of the league is still pretty unknown.

Chicago
at Kansas City -9

A battle of two 1-3 teams takes place at Arrowhead.  The Chiefs are giving 9 points, and they've been competitive in all 3 of their losses, but in reality they've only beaten Houston.  The Bears beat the Raiders in a close game at home last week, but I don't think they can repeat that performance again on the road.  Give me the Chiefs and the points.  Kansas City 30 Chicago 17.

Seattle
at Cincinnati -3

If the Seahawks had Marshawn Lynch, I'd go with the Hawks on the upset.  But, without Beast Mode, I'll take the Bengals.  Danger Russ was running for his life on Monday night behind that shaky offensive line.  Andy Dalton is due for a terrible game, but I think Cincy keeps the ball on the ground all day and gets a win at home.  Cincy 22 Seattle 17.

Washington
at Atlanta -7

Matty Ice and the Falcons will continue their winning streak again this week in the Georgia Dome to get to 5-0.  Washington isn't as bad as everyone might have thought, but I don't think they are going into the Georgia Dome and coming out with a win.  Falcons 30 Redskins 21.

Jacksonville
at Tampa Bay -2.5

Famous Jameis went to the Josh Norman Peninsula last weekend and proved he's got a long way to go before proving he's worthy of the No. 1 overall pick.  You think the Bucs are wishing they took Mariota right about now?  Being that this game is in Tampa, I'd go with the Bucs to get a win against Jacksonville, who have looked decent this season, but still fell short against an Indy team that was without Andrew Luck.  Tampa 22 Jacksonville 13.

New Orleans
at Philadelphia -5.5

I have no idea about this game.  Drew Brees could light it up, or the Saints could struggle.  I'm going to say the Eagles get a win, but only because the Saints defense is atrocious.  Rob Ryan must have pictures of Mickey Loomis doing something terrible to puppies to keep his job.  That's the only explanation for why he's still employed.   Eagles 27 Saints 23.

Cleveland
at Baltimore -6.5

The Ravens got a gift from Pittsburgh and managed to keep their season alive, while the Browns managed to trail all day against to San Diego only to come back and then choke away a chance to win the game.  With this game being in crab country, I'll take Flacco and the Ravens to get the win against the Browns.  Fighting Edgar Allan Poes 24 Perennial AFC North Basement Dwellers 14.

St. Louis
at Green Bay -9

Kudos to the Rams for winning last week in the desert.  They're on their way to another season of 7 to 9 wins.  The Packers are cruising and don't look to be slowing down anytime soon.  James Jones is making sure Jordy Nelson isn't terribly missed, as he's gone from NFL journeyman to a potential 1000 yard receiver.  I'll take the Packers to win at home and cover.  Green Bay 31 St. Louis 20.

Buffalo
at Tennessee (Even)

This should be a close game from start to finish.  I'm going to go with the Bills solely based on the fact that defense travels.  Mariota is going to be running a lot from that Bills front seven.  If Shady McCoy plays, the Bills will have a much better chance, but Tennessee will keep it close for most of the afternoon.  Bills 17 Titans 13.

Arizona -3
at Detroit

Is Detroit really going to go 0-5?  The Cards are coming off a surprising loss to the Rams, and I don't think Bruce is going to let them lose 2 in a row.  The Lions meanwhile got handed a soul-crushing loss in Seattle on Monday night.  That was a tough way to lose a game.  I think this is one where the Lions lose to Seattle twice, as they dwell on what could have been and drop to 0-5.  Cards 27 Lions 20.

New England -9
at Dallas

Tom Brady or Brandon Weeden?  Give me the Pats and the points.  This one isn't close from the start.  New England 38 Dallas 17.

Denver -4
at Oakland

This might look like a sexy upset pick, but Denver's defense is better than Oakland's offense.  I like what Oakland is doing, and it's clear "Carr to Cooper" is something the Raiders fans will be yelling for the foreseeable future.  That having been said, I'll still take Peyton Manning over Carr and Cooper.  Denver 27 Oakland 19.

San Francisco
at NY Giants -6.5

Eli vs. Kaep?  Give me the guy with 2 rings and Odell Beckham, Jr. playing at home.  I think the 49ers make this game closer than it should be, but they fade in the 2nd half as Prince Amukamara picks off Kaep to seal the win for the Giants.   G-Men 20 49ers 13.

Pittsburgh
at San Diego - 3.5

The Monday night game looked to be a match between 2004 1st round QBs in Big Ben and Philip Rivers, but the injury 2 weeks ago made sure that it will be Vick under center in the Greatest City in the History of Mankind.  If this game was in the Steel City, I'd go with the Terrible Towel crew, but with this game on the West Coast give me the Chargers to get to 3-2.   San Diego 24 Pittsburgh 21.

There's nothing quite like driving halfway across the country on a Sunday while you listen to NFL Network on Sirius XM radio.  I like to think of it as the Reverse Oregon Trail as I head back east to the Carolinas from Mississippi.  I just hope I have better luck than this.

Seriously?  Get it together Karen.
