NFL Weeks 3 Predictions

                                                              Courtesy of presspasslatino.com

2 Weeks down, 15 to go, before the playoffs.  What did we learn in Week 2?  The Eagles might not be as good as we thought.  The Jags and Raiders have shown signs of improvement.  The Jets defense is legit, and the Pats and Packers are still the class of the NFL.  With the Giants finally getting a win on Thursday night against the Redskins, NY looks like they might be able to compete in what all of a sudden is a very shaky NFC East.  Let's take a look at the rest of the league and see how the other games should play out.

Atlanta -1
at Dallas

Atlanta has surprised a lot of people this year.  Matty Ice has been lighting it up with his passes to Julio Jones, but the real eye-opener has been the Falcons defense.  Dan Quinn has got this Falcons defense playing with some swagger.  If Dallas had all their weapons, Tony Romo, Dez, a fully healthy Jason Witten, I'd go with the Cowboys, but I think in this game the Falcons just have too much firepower.  The Falcons go to Arlington and get a win to move to 3-0.

                                                  Courtesy of usatoday.com

Indianapolis -3
at Tennessee

The Colts and Andrew Luck have looked almost as bad as Luck's neck beard during the first two weeks of the season.  I can't see Indy starting off 0-3.  I know Pagano and the Colts look to be on the outs after this season, and that's terrible for team chemistry, but they should still beat Tennessee.  Andrew Luck gets the Colts back on track this week and the Colts get a win and cover in Nashville.

Oakland
at Cleveland -3.5

Upset special.  I'm going with the Raiders this week.  I think they've got a better QB, better WRs, and they go to Cleveland and get a win.  While it's an unspoken rule that you don't lose your job to injury, the Browns looked like a competent football team with Johnny Manziel under center.  I think McCown fails to deliver this week, and the Browns fans call for Johnny.

                                                           Courtesy of Bleacherreport.com

Cincinnati
at Baltimore -2.5

The Ravens have to right the ship this week.  Cincinnati is the better team, but the Ravens are desperate because if they don't win this week, they are effectively done in terms of making the playoffs.  Cincy has looked impressive in the first two weeks, but I don't think they get it done in Baltimore and the Ravens win a close game by a field goal.

                                                        Courtesy of sportsworldreport.com

Jacksonville
at New England -13.5

America's Team, in America's City!  I'm talking of course about the Actionville Jaguars.   The Jags are riding high after beating the Dolphins in Week 2, while the Pats put up video game like numbers against Rex Ryan and moved to 2-0.  13 1/2 is a lot of points in the NFL.  I think the Pats win comfortably, but I'd stay away from this line.

                                                                     Courtesy of ispot.tv

New Orleans
at Carolina -9.5

I guess we're going to find out how good those backups really can be.   McCown will get the start this week in Carolina.  The Saints have struggled the first two games, and Carolina has looked lackluster in their 2 wins against the Jags and Texans.  I think this game is closer than it should be as the Panthers and Saints usually match up well against each other.  The Panthers get the win but the Saints cover the spread 20-13.

                                                         Courtesy of usatoday.com

Philadelphia
at NY Jets -1.5

Will the Eagles really start the season 0-3?  Will the Jets really start the season 3-0?  Philly can't be this bad, and the Jets can't be this good.  This is a hard fought game from start to finish and I originally thought Philly would get a late score to win this one against the Jets.  The Eagles are desperate for a win, and Chip Kelly will empty his playbook to get Philly back on track, but with breaking news that Demarco Murray is out and Ryan Matthews is starting as the lead RB against that stingy Jets defense, I'm going with the Jets to get a close win at home.

                                                               Courtesy of usathebiglead.com

Tampa Bay
at Houston -6

Houston looked better against Carolina last week, and the Bucs looked good against the Saints defense in New Orleans.  Mallett gets better in Week 3.  Deandre Hopkins is set to go after going through a concussion protocol, which is good news for Houston.   The Texans defense will give Jameis problems all game, and Watt gets at least 2 sacks against that weak offensive line.  If this game was in Tampa, I'd go with the Bucs, but I think the Texans get it done at home, but fail to cover.

                                                             Courtesy of laynekennedy.com

San Diego
at Minnesota -1.5

Before we get to this game, the news out of Minnesota this week had nothing to do with the Vikings game plan against the Chargers, and everything to do with Ragnar the Viking.  For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, Ragnar is the official mascot of the Minnesota Vikings, and he's basically a local private contractor who gets paid $1500 per game to dress like a viking and ride a motorcycle around the stadium during game.  The man playing Ragnar apparently thought this would be a good time for a contract negotiation, and he wants the Vikings to pay him $20,000 per game for the next 10 years.  Good luck with that.

As for the game, the Vikings finally decided that running the football with AP was a good idea in their win over the Lions last week.  Being that this game is in Minnesota I'm going with the Vikings to win and cover against Rivers and the Chargers.

                                                          Courtesy of sportsgrid.com

Pittsburgh
at St. Louis -1

Le'veon Bell is back this week, and the Steelers will need someone to help alleviate the touches Deangelo Williams has been getting in the first two weeks.  Look for both RBs to share the load in this one, with Bell getting most of the carries.  Everyone in Rams Nation is looking to see how Todd Gurley will fair today, as he is listed as active for today's game.  Give me the Steelers to get a win on the road.

                                                              Courtesy of georgetownvoice.com

San Francisco
at Arizona -6.5

Being that this is a divisional game, I think this one is closer than it should be.  Arizona should win this one by at least a TD, but the 49ers keep it close on the road and this game isn't decided until the 4th quarter.  Carson Palmer hits Larry Fitzgerald for the game winning score, and the Cards defense stops Kaep and the 49ers as they turn the ball over on downs to end the game.

                                                                 Courtesy of pinterest.com

Buffalo
at Miami -1.5

The Dolphins laid an egg last week in Jacksonville.  Joe Philbin and Ryan Tannehill will have their work cut out for them this week against Rex and the Bills front 7.  If this game was in Buffalo, I'd go with the Bills, but I think Miami does just enough to get a victory at home.  Dolphins by 4.

                                                              Courtesy of fansided.com

Chicago
at Seattle -14.5

Seattle gets Kam Chancellor back this week, as Kam ends his holdout.  Even without Kam they'd have beaten Chicago this week, but this is a game where the Seahawks are looking to make a statement.  They have to win if they hope to have any chance at contending for the NFC West.  The Hawks can't fall 3 games behind Arizona.  Seattle beats the Bears handily and cover the huge spread, as Jimmy Clausen throws 2 INTs and fumbles the football for a 3rd turnover in a route.

                                                            Courtesy of standingosports.com

Denver -3
at Detroit

I'm calling this one as an upset.  The Broncos have won their first 2 games on last second miracle plays.  Detroit has their backs against the wall, and playing at home in the dome, Stafford has an impressive day throwing for 300 yards and 2 TDs.  Calvin Johnson goes off against Aqib Talib and has a huge day for the Lions.

                                                          Courtesy of navepo.com

Kansas City
at Green Bay -6.5

Green Bay isn't losing at home.  I know that writing this I may be jinxing them, but they don't lose at home.  Alex Smith and Jamal Charles will keep it close in the first half, but they don't have the weapons Green Bay does.  Give me the Packers to win and cover.

Here's to Week 3 of the NFL.  Cheers!

SEC Week 4 Predictions

                                                        Courtesy of saturdaydownsouth.com

Well we've got 3 weeks in the books, and Week 4 of SEC football is upon us.  While this week might not be thought of as the most dramatic week of the season, it still has several key match ups with Mississippi State going to the Plains, Texas A&M squaring off against Arkansas in Jerry's World, and Tennessee trying to break their losing streak against Florida in The Swamp.  So let's see how each team should fair this weekend.

                                                                          Courtesy of usatoday.com

Southern
at Georgia (No line)

Sorry sports gaming fans, there's no line on this game.  Georgia obviously wins in a huge blowout and rests their starters by the start of the 3rd quarter.  Georgia will prep their players for Alabama, who comes to Athens next week.

                                                                Courtesy of bleacherreport.com

UCF
at South Carolina -14.5

Ok, these are 2 atrocious football teams.  South Carolina is bad, but UCF is even worse.  Lorenzo Nunez will get his chance to revive the Gamecock program on Saturday.  I hope that involves throwing the ball the Pharoh Cooper at least 20 times.  I'm not sure South Carolina covers, but UCF is 0-3 and lost to Florida International, Stanford, and Furman.  Give me the Gamecocks and the points.

                                                                    Courtesy of SBNation.com

LSU - 24.5
at Syracuse

Lay Em!  How is Syracuse going to stop Leonard Fournette?  I think the biggest issue for the Tigers is whether or not they run out of booze in The Carrier Dome for their fans by the half.   Godspeed Orangemen, Godspeed.

                                                         Courtesy of tennessean.com

Tennessee
at Florida (Even)

Alright Vols fans, if you're want to be ready for prime time you have to win this game.  I haven't completely bought into Butch Jones yet, because he hasn't won any big games.  If the Vols win this game in The Swamp, then Tennessee might have a shot to compete with Georgia for the East, but I still think Georgia is far better.  Florida's defense will keep it close, but I think Tennessee has more offensive talent, ends the streak, and wins this game by a field goal.  Vols 17 - Gators 14.

UL Monroe
at Alabama -38

Oh Twitter, how glorious you've been the last couple of days.   From "Joey Freshwater" to rumors of Lane Kiffin running his game on every lady in Tuscaloosa, this last week has been Internet Gold for Bama haters.  People have almost forgotten how terrible Auburn football is, because of the TMZ/Keeping Up With The Kiffins stories that have come out of Roll Tide Nation.  I doubt hardly any of it is true, but I can't wait for the signs on College Game Day.  Bama covers on this one, but I know people that would give their first born child to the reporter who is brave enough to ask Nick Saban if there's any truth to the rumors regarding Lane Kiffin.  I swear this week in Alabama.

Texas A&M -6.5
vs. Arkansas

This game looks like Vegas is begging you to take the Aggies.  I think Arkansas has some serious issues, and A&M is clearly better.  I am reluctantly going to take the Aggies to cover, based on talent alone, but I wouldn't be surprised if Bret pulls a miracle and wins this game in Arlington.  Arkansas has to turn it around at some point.  They can't be this bad, or Bret might not make it to 2016, let alone 2017.

Vanderbilt
at Ole Miss -26.5

Hotty Toddy!  Lay Em!  The only question on this game is whether or not Swag Kelly makes it to the 3rd quarter or if he's dancing on the stage at The Library while Ryan Fratcannon game-manages his way to a 50-10 victory.   Chad Kelly is already watching film of Vernon Hargreaves III for next week.

Mississippi State
vs. Auburn -2.5

This game is probably the most interesting game in the SEC.  I know Tennessee at Florida is the 3:30 CBS game, as it should be, but the Bulldogs heading to The Plains has pretty big implications.  The loser goes to 2-2 and is essentially done in the SEC West, while the winner can cling to some hope that they have a shot to compete for a chance to go to Atlanta.  Both of these teams lost to LSU.  State lost on a missed field goal, and Auburn got taken to the woodshed.  State has to go on the road to an Auburn crowd that is desperate for a win, and the Tigers are hoping that Sean White can lead their team back to respectability.  The Dak Attack is more of a proven commodity than Sean White, and I think the Bulldogs go to The Plains and get a win.  This Auburn team is a lot closer to 0-3 than they are 3-0.  #Clanga

Missouri
at Kentucky -3

Who knows?  I feel like the guys in Vegas, just said, "Hey both these teams are so mediocre and bland, let's just give the home team 3 points and hope the Wildcats fans bet heavy on Kentucky."  Mizzou has struggled for the last 2 weeks.  They beat UCONN 9-6.   9 Points at Home!  You know who else scored 9 points at home last week?  Kentucky!   Thank goodness this game is at 7:30 PM EST.  I'd say go with Kentucky, but something tells me Mizzou actually wakes up and wins this game, because they know how to win close games, even if it's ugly.

                                                         Courtesy of SBNation.com

We'll see how things play out on Saturday.  Will Tennessee finally get back to their former glory?  Will Lane Kiffin manage to make it to halftime before Harvey Updyke poisons his Gatorade?  Will Bret try and parlay his performance in Jerry's World, into an Offensive Line Coaching Job with the Cowboys?  Will Stingray go to Auburn?  Will we see more Surrender Cobras?  Here's to Week 4 in the SEC!

NFL Week 2 Predictions

                                                   Courtesy of printableschedules.com

Alright, I know this is late, but I was up until 2 AM last night watching the Ole Miss-Alabama game.  Denver already played Kansas City, and pulled out a comeback win due to a late fumble by Jamal Charles.  Denver's 2-0, but they could easily be 0-2.  Meanwhile, Peyton has clearly lost some zip on his fastball, but with that defense, the Broncos should be ok.  So let's get to today's games.

                                                          Courtesy of Bleacherreport.com

Houston
at Carolina -3

Auburn sure could have used Cam yesterday.  Even though Newton didn't look good in Week 1, the Panthers still got a double digit win.  With Luke Kuechly out this week, Carolina's defense is going to have a challenge, but Houston is starting Ryan Mallett, so that's pretty much an even trade off.  What's really going to be interesting is how Michael Oher and the Panthers' offensive line fairs against JJ Watt.  Expect a lot of quick short passes and runs to the other side of the field.  Panthers should win this game in a close one and barely cover.

                                                                           Courtesy of cbssports.com

San Francisco
at Pittsburgh -5

I think the 49ers come back down to earth this week against the Steelers, and I can't see Pittsburgh starting 0-2.  Big Ben should be good again today, and it will be intriguing to see if Deangelo Williams can keep up the type of play he had in Week 1.  Steelers win and cover.

                                                                     Courtesy of thenypost.com

Tampa Bay
at New Orleans -9.5

Tampa Bay looked awful against Tennessee last week, and this week they'll have to head to The Big Easy to see if they can beat Drew Brees and the Saints.  9 1/2 points is a lot of points to give and Jameis will be better, especially with Mike Evans playing, but I think the Saints win this one by 10 and cover the spread.  Look for Brandin Cooks to get a lot of touches.

                                                                        Courtesy of usatoday.com

Detroit
at Minnesota -2.5

Dear Minnesota, RUN THE BALL.  You have AP; if you only run the ball 10 times, you're going to lose.  I think they correct things this week and you see a heavy dose of Peterson.  Matt Stafford will throw for a lot of yards, but being that this game is at Minnesota, the Vikings get the win by 3 and cover.

                                                          Courtesy of fantasyomatic.com

Arizona -2
at Chicago

Arizona is the better team.  Even on the road they'll win and cover.  I think Chicago keep it close until the 2nd half, but Carson Palmer and the Cards pull away and win by a touchdown.

                                                             Courtesy of nbcconnecticut.com

Patriots
at Bills -1

I've gone back and forth on this game all week.  Rex Ryan usually plays the Pats very close, and Buffalo has some swagger after beating the Colts in Week 1.  Still, it's hard to pick against Brady and New England over Tyrod Taylor.  I don't think he's going to sustain good performances on a consistent basis throughout the year.  He'll have some growing pains.  Take the Pats in a close one.

                                                             Courtesy of examiner.com

San Diego
at Cincinnati -3.5

It's a regular season game, and San Diego has to travel to Cincy....give me Andy Dalton and the Bengals.  Rivers falls behind again, and the Chargers have to play catch up, but unlike last week, the Bengals hold off a late charge.  I think the Bengals cover the spread and win by a touchdown.

                                               Courtesy of waitingfornextyear.com

Tennessee -1
at Cleveland

I think Tennessee is better than Cleveland.  I think Marcus Mariota is better than Johnny Football, but I think this is a quirky game, and Johnny Football gets his first ever NFL win and the Browns beat the Tennessee Titans.

                                                                 Courtesy of muthead.com

Atlanta
at New York Giants -2.5

Atlanta looked much improved in Week 1, and the Giants have serious issues on defense, but this is one where Eli and the Giants bounce back and get a win at Met Life.  Odell Beckham, Jr. should have a big day as the Giants beat the Falcons to move to 1-1.

                                                               Courtesy of cbssports.com

St. Louis -3
at Washington

Tre Mason is set to go for the Rams, but Todd Gurley is a game-time decision.  I think St. Louis is better, but I think the Redskins somehow find a way to win this game.  That front 7 for St. Louis is very good and very physical, and this game should be a grind it out struggle for both teams.  Washington wins by a field goal late.

                                                    Courtesy of sportsworldreport.com

Miami -6
at Jacksonville

Neither of these teams looked overly impressive in Week 1.  The Dolphins didn't really light it up against Washington, and Jacksonville looked awful against Carolina.  The Jaguars offensive line is going to struggle all day with Suh and that Dolphins defense.  Miami wins with better talent and personnel and they cover the spread.

                                                                Courtesy of abcnews.com

Baltimore -4.5
at Oakland

Baltimore made the sound decision to stay on the west coast after their game against Denver, so they wouldn't have a short week and have to fly across country twice.   Oakland has to be better than they were last week, but they still aren't good enough to beat the Ravens.  Baltimore wins and covers, but the Raiders look much improved from their loss to Cincy.

                                                               Courtesy of youtube.com

Dallas
at Philadelphia -6

Philadelphia blew the game against the Falcons on Monday night, while Dallas stole a win from New York in Jerry's World.  I think this one is a breakout game for the Eagles and they beat Dallas in convincing fashion.  With no Dez Bryant, the Eagles will double Jason Witten and bring pressure on Romo all afternoon.  Take the Eagles and the points.

                                                                       Courtesy of isportsweb.com

Seattle
at Green Bay -3

Green Bay All Day.  The Packers want this game so bad they can taste it.   Meanwhile, Seattle's distractions have hurt their chemistry and they lost to a St. Louis team they shouldn't have.  Facing Aaron Rodgers and Eddie Lacy is not going to be a fun day.  The Packers win and cover at home on Sunday night.

                                                                Courtesy of theindychannel.com

New York Jets
at Indianapolis -7

Andrew Luck isn't going to have another let down game for the second week in a row.  He'll throw for his usual number of yards and the Colts win this game by a touchdown.  T.Y. Hilton is optimistic he'll play on Monday night, which would be a huge boost for the Colts.

Here's to the 2nd Week of NFL Football.  Cheers!

SEC Week 3 Recap

                                                     Courtesy of nbccollegefootballtalk.com

In case you missed it, the SEC had some excitement yesterday and this morning around 1 AM.  Swag Kelly put on a show in Tuscaloosa, while Leonard Fournette's family is looking at hotel accommodations in New York City for the Heisman ceremony.   So without further delay, here's how each SEC fared yesterday.

Missouri barely edges UCONN

The Missouri Tigers are 3-0, but they have not looked good in the past two weeks.  This game was a clinic in how not to score.  UCONN's decision to fake a field goal that would have tied the game, and ultimately come up short, would seal the win for Mizzou, 9-6.  The Tigers head to Kentucky next Saturday.  We'll see how they hold up against the Wildcats.

                                                         Courtesy of dallasnews.com

Texas A&M handles Nevada

In a game that was never really in doubt, the Aggies beat Nevada 44-27.  Kyle Allen put up 5 touchdowns in the win, while Tra Carson ran for 137 yards on 22 carries in College Station.  The Aggies play Arkansas next week in Jerry's World, so let's see how the Razorbacks did.

Arkansas loses to the Fighting Ryan Goslings

Well Bret, things just got really bad in Fayetteville.  Back to back losses against what many considered to be inferior opponents have shown that Arkansas is not a good football team.  The Razorbacks and the Red Raiders traded blows all day, until Texas Tech pulled away in the 2nd half.  WR Jared Cornelius suffered a gruesome injury during the game, and we wish him a speedy recovery, but it looks like his season is done.  Arkansas is going to have a really tough test going forward.  Their next 3 games are A&M in Jerry's World, at Tennessee, and at Alabama.  Good luck guys.

Mississippi State exorcises the Demons in Starkvegas

In predictable fashion, the Bulldogs thumped Northwestern State 62-13.  Dak was 10-11 for 227 yards passing, and Donald Gray had 4 catches for 140 yards and 1 TD.  State heads to the Plains next week to face Auburn.

                                                                 Courtesy of telegraph.co.uk

Auburn gets run over by Leonard Fournette

The Gus Bus has officially broken down and is now engulfed in flames.  I don't know what's worse, Jeremy Johnson or Auburn's defense?  This game looked like Jim Brown was playing against 6th graders.  Leonard Fournette's NFL Draft tape is just going to be clips of this game.  LSU might not be able to throw the ball, but they clearly don't have to with Fournette running the ball.

Vandy beats Austin Peay

In a game that no one who's not a Vanderbilt or Austin Peay fan watched, Vandy beat Austin Peay 47-7.  Both teams are horrible, so congrats Vandy.  You get Ole Miss in Oxford next week.  Sweet helmets though.

Tennessee obliterates Western Carolina

Butch and the Vols bounced back after a gut-wrenching loss to Oklahoma last week, by slapping around an inferior Western Carolina.  The Vols led 41-3 at the half and put it on cruise control for the 2nd half, winning 55-10.  Josh Dobbs was 15-21 passing for 144 yards.  Tennessee goes to Florida next week, and hopes to end their streak against the Gators.

                                                               Courtesy of al.com

Florida is 3-0 after beating Kentucky 14-9

The Gators are 3-0.  They haven't really looked impressive, but 3-0 is 3-0.  The Florida defense looked good last night, especially in the 4th quarter where they stopped potentially game winning drive by Kentucky.  Florida looks to go 4-0 against Tennessee in The Swamp next week.

South Carolina is officially South Carolina again

Well Gamecock fans, y'all had a great run, but I think the Spurrier era is officially coming to a close.  The Gamecocks defense gave up 52 points to Georgia in Athens Saturday, and Greyson Lambert, who struggled in the first two games, completed 96% of his passes against South Carolina.  96 PERCENT!  The good news for the Gamecocks is they get UCF next week who is 0-3 having lost to FIU, Stanford, and the Furman Paladins.

Ole Miss Topples the Tide in T-Town

Oh alliteration, how my 6th grade English teacher loves you.   Thanks Mrs. Bowden.  SWAG KELLY!  Yes, we were entertained.  I think the stock of bourbon and blood pressure medication skyrocketed during this game.  Last night looked like Salvador Dali and Hunter S. Thompson collaborated on what should happen in a football game.  It was utterly surreal.  From the fumbled special teams plays, to The Ghost of Bo Wallace throwing up a prayer that bounced off Laquon Treadwell and into the hands of Quincy Adeboyejo, this game pretty much drained all levels of adrenaline Ole Miss and Alabama fans have for the next 5 years.

The Rebels strolled into Tuscaloosa and showed they were better than Alabama, and that's not something that happens often.  Phyllis from Mulga is probably on suicide watch right now and I hope someone in The Network is making sure Harvey Updyke doesn't set foot in The Grove.  Ole Miss gets Vandy next week, while Bama gets the Fighting Duck Dynasty War Hawks.
